Lee buys his co-workers at the pharmacy doughnuts in the morning for $2 a doughnut.  He also makes an afternoon trip to the same bakery to purchase the same number of doughnuts to take home but the price has been reduced to $1 a doughnut. Let x represent the number of doughnuts Lee has purchased.

Write an expression that represents these purchases.

For this case, the first thing we must do is define a variable.
We have then:
x: the number of donuts Lee you have purchased
In the morning we have:
2x
In the afternoon we have:
x
Therefore, the total amount that Lee buys is:
2x + x
Answer:
an expression that represents these purchases is:
2x + x
