Scout found the singing of hymns to be similar to her church, despite the lack of hymn-books. She also found the way that Reverend Sykes called on the Lord to bless both the sick and suffering to be similar, with the exception of how Sykes requested that the Lord direct His attention to a few other specific cases aside from the initial. The sermon Reverend Sykes gave was also similar to her church's, as she notes that she and Jem heard the exact same one every Sunday, except for a few parts Sykes implemented himself.
