According to the investigations, the first gasoline powered car was made in 1894 by the American Elwood Haynes.

It was a very different machine than current automobiles. For example, instead of the steering wheel with which today are directed modern cars, it had a simple handgrip. The wheels were not provided with tires, as it happens today, and they only had a solid rubber cover that did not protect much from bumps.

The car built by Haynes is kept at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
