A line from the top of a cliff to the ground passes just over the top of a pole 6.0 ft. high and meets the ground at a point 7.0 ft. from the base of the pole. if the point is 86 ft. from the base of the cliff, how high is the cliff? round to the nearest unit.

This will solved using the concept of proportionality:
(height of the cliff)/(height of the pole)=(base of the cliff)/(length from base of pole to the rope)
thus, let the height of the cliff be x, plugging the values in the formula we obtain:
x/6=86/7
hence solving for x we get
x=(86×6)/7
x=73.71 ft
