Environmental-protection laws can be bad for the economy because they may increase unemployment. This is because The passage of environmental-protection laws may result in higher prices which will in turn stifle market demand. Falling demand will result in firms decreasing supply and laying off workers.

They may increase unemployment

Environmental protection laws usually put a lot of pressure on manufacturing and heavy industry companies to change their ways which is often highly expensive. To negate the costs of having to adhere to these new laws, the companies usually fire people because the companies don't want to lose money and this may cause higher unemployment.
