Political corruption and increasing wealth

The wealthy kept getting wealthier while the poor kept getting poorer, which led to a division of social classes and resentment. Also, inflation occurred because too much gold was being spent on luxury items. Meanwhile, the empire had difficulty choosing a dictator and certain emperors were killed by the populace.
