Russia participated in World War I due to its interest in both restricting Germany's ability to threaten Russia's status and as a diplomatic effort relative to the great powers of Europe which were Germany, Britain, France, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Russian Revolution made Stalin Cruel as he was tortured by Lenin.
