How are root hairs an adaptive advantage for the plant? which organ structure in the intestinal tract performs a similar function>?

root hairs have hair like extensions which help increase the surface for absorption of water and mineral salts from the soil. It is similar in function to the villi of the intestinal tract which also has hair like extensions to increase the surface area for absorption of nutrients.
