The correct answer is: [D]: " 52.2 miles" .

Step-by-step explanation:
____________________________________________________________
Take note of the formula: d = r * t ;

The question asks: "How many miles will he travel in "3.5 hours" ?

So, we want to find "d" , the distance (in units of "mi." {miles} ) .

We are give: rate, "r" = 15 mi / hr .

time, "t" = 3.5 hr.
__________________________________________________________

→ d = r * t ;

Plug in our known values for "r" and "t" ; to solve for "d" ;

→ d =
(15 mi )/(hr) *3.5 hr ;

Both units of "hr" cancel out to "1" ; since: " hr/hr = 1 " .

And we are left with:

→ d = (15 * 3.5) mi. ;

d = 52.5 mi.

The answer is: " 52.5 mi. " ;

→ which is: "Answer choice: [D]: " 52.5 miles " .

Hey there! :)

If distance is equal to: rate × time then you have to multiply

Rate = 15 miles
Time = 3.5 hours

All you have to do is multiply to find the distance

15 × 3.5 = 52.5

The closest answer is D. So your answer is D.

Hope this helps :)
