The Sand Creek massacre was a massacre of Cheyenne and Arapaho people on November 29, 1864. During this massacre, an estimated 70-500 Native Americans were killed, and of these, about two-thirds were women and children. The people responsible for the killing were the Third Colorado Cavalry of the U.S. Army.
