In the poem "Holy Sonnet XIV: Batter My Heart", the author uses an iambic pentameter meter which can be popularly seen in Shakespeare's sonnets. In this kind of meter, each line has ten syllables. These syllables are divided into five pairs where one unstressed syllable is followed by a stressed one.
