Giuseppe Garibaldi, Camillo di Cavour, Victor Emmanuel II and Giuseppe Mazzini were the central figures in Italian unification. They are considered as the "fathers of the fatherland". However, Klemens von Metternich was the opponent in this movement, fighting against the former.
