The House of Representatives takes action by voting to impeach Nixon for abuse of power, obstruction of justice, criminal cover-up and several violations of the Constitution. The tapes that were released provided an evidence of Nixon’s involvement in the Watergate cover-up. Nixon resigned on August 8, 1974, the first president of the U.S. to voluntarily leave the office.
