How do mountains affect the amount of precipitation that falls over falls over an area

Mountains have a higher altitude, and the higher up you are the colder it gets. Think about that and you should be able to come up with a pretty good answer!! Let me know if you need more help :)

the mountains take the rain on the westward side most of the time so the eastern side doesnt get any.
