How were world empires in 1900 different from those in 1600?

For the answer to the question above, 1600 empires differ from 1900's because in 1600 the empires where monarchs and royal family building their empire and conquering the land that they have landed and by waging wars to win the land by force. In 1900's the empires are businesses like John Rockefeller in which he builds his empire business of oil across America and the globe. They conquer lands using money, power, and influence.
