Given that Y = 2x^2-96, find x

This isn't an equation, so you cannot "solve for x." However, you can factor, as follows:

y = 2(x^2-49) = 2(x-7)(x+7)

If you decide to set this = to zero, then you can solve for x: {-7, 7}.
