For a newborn with respiratory distress syndrome, the nurse should focus on deficient surfactant production. A successful adaptation of extrauterine breathing it requires many factors which most infants accomplish.
Preterm infants with respiratory distress are not able to adjust. What is most likely to happen is the abnormal development of surfactant system bronchioles also develops in newborn.
