How did the people of Lilliput subdue Gulliver

At the sight of Gulliver, the Lilliputians thought that he would be very violent towards them and he may conquer them easily considering their tiny statue. So, they decided not take him as a friend first. They tied him down with tiny ropes, shot him with their tiny arrows, and made him lying horizontally which made it easy for them to transport him.
