In a given school, there are 240 boys and 260 girls.

a) What is the ratio of the number of girls to the number of boys?
b) What is the ratio of the number of boys to the total number of pupils in the school?

Part A

To get the ratio of girls to boys you do

amount of girls: amount of boys

The answer is 260: 240
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First you have to find the total amount of students

240 + 260 = 500

To get the ratio of boys to the total amount of students you do

amount of boys: amount of students

The answer is 240:500

a)\\\\(260)/(240)=(26)/(24)=(13)/(12)=13:12\\\\b)\\240+260=500\\\\(240)/(500)=(24)/(50)=(12)/(25)=12:25
