When Prospero and Miranda were cast away, Gonzalo was the one who helped them by supplying them not only with the food and water but also with the things that make life easier. Gonzalo, an honest and trusted adviser to King Alonso of Naples, has a good heart and optimistic attitude which helped Prospero and Miranda to survive.
