The novel is "One Hundred Years of Solitude" (or "Cien años de soledad," in Spanish). Magical realism is a style in which a story takes place in the real world, but has magical elements incorporated in it. Another example of magical realism is the novel "The House of the Spirits" ("La casa de los espíritus") by Isabel Allende.
