let's assign the triangles side

d
| \
| \
| \
| \
f|___\e
let's take angle x at e and then the trigonometric functions will be

sin x=opposite/ hyp
=df/de

cos x=adj/hyp
=ef/de

tan x=opp/adj or sin/cos
=df/ef =df/de÷ef/de
=df/ef
