The Parasympathetic system is the part of the autonomic nervous system which controls the rest and digests functions of the body. Parasympathetic system functions to conserve energy as it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, relaxes sphincter muscles in the gastrointestinal tract and replenish the supply of nutrients.
