Carl Sauer is the geographer known for distinguishing between vegetative planting and seed agriculture. Carl Sauer was a professor of geography from the University of California at Berkeley. He introduced the distinction between vegetative and seed planting and he also defined the concept of cultural landscape as the fundamental unit of geographical analysis.
