Interscholastic sports provide personal discipline and teach children to get along with others in order to achieve a common goal. It has been associated with a decreased likelihood of cigarette smoking for teenagers and it reduces risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Nevertheless, other people oppose against interscholastic sports for they emphasized that varsity sports only privileges athletes over others and it became a status system in the institution.
