The five (5) Environmental issues that Pick n Pay will be able to address and how Pick n Pay addresses each environmental issue are:
a. Energy efficiency - Pick n Pay have replaced harmful ozone-depleting HCFC-based refrigeration with a more natural refrigerant technology.
b. Green products - Pick n Pay green products range are 100% recyclable with the active components made from natural and sustainable ingredients. Under customary environments, such as household drainage, the products biodegrade within six (6) days.
c. Climate change - Pick n Pay has partnered with schools to make students aware of the importance of climate change that includes providing educational materials.
d. Waste management - Pick n Pay has created three (3) tiers for effective waste management that include: management of their own waste; packaging reduction; and consumer recycling. They have converted from the use of cardboard sleeves to paper labels. They have also converted from the use of plastic sleeves to board sleeves for their convenience food product lines.
e. Vehicle emission and noise pollution - Pick n Pay uses ozone-friendly lubrication oils and diesel with low sulfur content. A low-noise system has also been introduced in all their fleet vehicles used for products distribution.
