How can we better understand the details of the umbrella terms, “Hispanic” or “Latino”?

The history of both. After the Spanish revolution left all nations mixed up and confused, intellectuals at the time had trouble defining the "Spanish Identity". So instead, the umbrella term "Hispanic" was created to refer to all of the persons living in South America.
