Africans demanded independence because they were tired of colonial rule and of imperialism. . They also didn't like the rise of nationalism and wanted their own independent country that could be governed the way that they wanted. Consumed with post-war debt, European powers were no longer able to afford the resources needed to maintain control of their African colonies.
