What factors influenced American public opinion about the war?

During both World War I and World War II, the conflict was mostly seen as a 'European War' and the American Public did not have any desire to enter it.

It was seen as wastage of resources.

However, events such as the attack on Pearl Harbor or even on a close Ally would quickly change public opinion in favor of going to war.
