Genetic engineering is a process through which the genome of an organism is manipulated.

By recombinant DNA technology, we can manipulate the genome of bacteria and produce vital enzymes from it.

First of all, we select the genes for our desired protein or enzyme production. We cut the gene through specific restriction enzymes. The same restriction enzymes are used to cut a vector such as a plasmid. Then the gene of interest is placed into the plasmid. The plasmid or vactor is injected into a bacteria. As a result, the bacteria makes multiple copies of the gene and hence enzyme can be produced from it.
