So we can say,

number of hotdogs sold + number of sodas sold = 144

h + s = 144 ----- eqn 1

The number of sodas sold was two times the number of hotdogs sold

number of sodas sold = two times the number of hotdogs sold

s = 2h ---- eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2 to find values of "s" and "h"

Substitute eqn 2 in eqn 1

h + 2h = 144

3h = 144

h = 48

Substitute h = 48 in eqn 2

s = 2(48)

s = 96
