HELPPPPPPP!!!!!!! Hyun is comparing two numbers. He knows the larger number is twice the value of 4 more than the smaller number, x. He also knows their difference is 11. Which equation can he use to find the value of the smaller number, x?

Larger number: 14

Smaller number = 3

Explanation:

Larger number (L)

Smaller number (S)

L = 2*(S + 4)

L - S = 11

Use subsitution:

S = -11 + L

L = 2*[(-11 + L) + 4]

L = -22 + 2L + 8

-L = -14

L = 14

Then solve for S:

14 = 2*(S + 4)

14 = 2S + 8

6 = 2S

S = 3
