Team A and Team B play in a competition.

Team A has twelve more points than Team B.

Team A has five times as many points as Team B.

How many points does each team have?

Answer:

Team A has 15 points and Team B has 3 points

Solution:

Given that Team A and Team B play in a competition

Let "a" represent points of team A

Let "b" represent points of team B

Given that Team A has twelve more points than Team B

So we can frame a equation as:

points with team A = 12 + points with team B

a = 12 + b --- eqn 1

Also given that Team A has five as many points as Team B

So we can frame a equation as:

points with team A = 5(points with team B)

a = 5b --- eqn 2

Substitute eqn 2 in eqn 1

5b = 12 + b

4b = 12

b = 3

Therefore from eqn 2,

a = 5b = 5(3) = 15

Thus team A has 15 points and Team B has 3 points
