The length of a rectangular mural is 2 ft more than three times the height. The area is 165 ft^2. Find the height of the mural.

Answer:

b = 3h + 2

h(3h + 2) = 165

3h² + 2h - 165 = 0

h = (-2 ± √(2² - 4(3)(-165)))/(2(3))

= (-2 ± √1,984)/6

= (-2 ± 8√31)/6

= (-1 ± 4√31)/3

= 7.09 ft
