My car can travel 300 miles on one tank of gas. My car can hold 20 gallons of gas. Calculate the unit rate and explain what your answer represnts in a complete sentence.

The unit rate represent that the car travels 15 miles in 1 gallon (unit) of gas.

Explanation:

Capacity of car (gas tank) to hold gas = 20 gallons

Distance traveled by car in one full tank = 300 miles

To find unit rate, we will use unitary method.

In 20 gallons of gas = the car can travel 300 miles

∴ In one gallon of gas car will travel =
(300\ miles)/(20\ gallons)=15\ miles

Unit rate = 15 miles/gallon (Answer)

This unit rate represent the number of miles traveled by the car in 1 gallon(unit) of gas.
