Why did some established Mexican Americans respond to the growing number of new arrivals with calls for immigration quotas in the late 1910s and 1920s?

Well, they actually feared that more recent arrivals would drive down the wages and also incite white prejudice against all the ethnic Mexicans in the late 1910s and 1920s.

Hope this helps.
