Everything started from an incident in 1892 when African-American Homer Plessy refused to have a sit in a car for blacks. He argued that, by doing so, his constitutional rights were being violated. However, the Supreme Court ruled that it was not unconstitutional. As a result, laws that enforced racial segregation became more popular and the separation of public transportation based on race became even more commonplace.
