Yes, if the United States joined the League of Nations it would added much more weight and validity to the institution. Many historians say that the League of nations failed partially because it didnt have the support of one of the worlds most powerful slash influential countries, the United States. This makes sense in the context of the situation. Why be part of something that the creator isnt even interested in? The USA practically invented the League, yet refused to join. This not only weakened the view of the League internationally, but also eventually cemented its destruction.
