Why can’t platypus’s produce a placenta

Step-by-step explanation:

The detachment of placenta triggers hormonal changes in the new mom which would lead to milk production. But in monotremes (like the platypus) lay eggs and don't have placentas. As in humans, milk production in monotremes is triggered by a hormone called oxytocin.
