solution 1:find the number of vehicles

personal vehicles and buses are both vehicles so we add the number, 16 and 56 to get a total of 72 people on vehicles. the total number of people there is 16+56+24 and this is 96. now we express this as a fraction and get 72/96. we simplify by dividing 24 from both top and bottom to get 3/4.

solution 2:find the number of people walking and subtract.

24 are walking out of the 96. this means 1/4 people are walking and the rest are on vehicles. 1- 1/4 is 3/4, so 3/4 people are on vehicles.
