Explanation:

In the figure attached to this solution a right angled triangle is formed with height as tent pole (9 feet), base as distance of rope pegged into ground from tent pole (7 feet) and hypotenuse as the guy's rope.

According to Pythagoras theorem :


H^(2)=P^(2)+B^(2)

H : Hypotenuse (here guy's rope)

B : Base (here distance of rope pegged into ground from tent pole = 7 feet)

P : Perpendicular (here tent pole = 9 feet)


H^(2)=(9)^(2)+(7)^(2) \\ H^(2)=130 \\ \therefore H=√(130)
