$x + 2y = 6 \\ 3x - 4y = 28 \\ \\ x = 6 - 2y \\ \\ 3(6 - 2y) - 4y = 28 \\ 18 - 6y - 4y = 28 \\ - 10y = 10 \\ y = - 1 \\ \\ x = 6 - 2( - 1) \\ x = 8$
