This novel deals directly with the plight of African Americans in the south during the Great Depression. Through the Logan family, we experience the atrocities committed against blacks in the south, and the oppression they faced. We also learn that there were a lot of good people in the world..... not every white farmer, landowner, or business owner was portrayed in a negative manner. Often, these people worked right alongside their neighbors without racial tension.

Answer:The novel also touches on the importance of owning land. Because the Logans are landowners they don't face some of the same difficulties that other Black families face because they are sharecroppers. Some of the novel's major themes include racial injustice, poverty, and land ownership.
