5x+3(x+4)=22

Over here we would have to distribute, which if you don't understand, I will explain it at the bottom.

5x+3x+12=22

Now you have to simplify by combining like terms

8x+12=22

Now we do same to both sides

8x=10

x=10/8

When we have something multiplied by 2 or more values in parenthesis, but those two or more values are not combined, we can use distrubutive property. So we multiply each term by the term outside of the parenthesis.

For example:

5(5-2)

We could just simplify and do 5*3=15, or we could do this

5*5-5*2 = 25-10 = 15. See, same answer, a different way of doing it.

When you are unable to combine the terms in the parenthesis and they're is multiplication (if that even makes sense), then distribute the number.

8x=22-12

8x=10

x=10/8

if its 28

8x=28-12

8x=16

x=2
