-3x=-18

divide both sides by -3

to get +x

to get x by itself

-3x/-3=-18/-3

cross out -3 and -3, divide by -3

then becomes -1*-1*x=1*x=x

x=-18/-3

answer:

x=6

Answer: x = 6

Step-by-step explanation: To solve for x in this equation, we want to get x by itself on the left side of the equation. Since x is being multiplied by -3, to get x by itself, we need to divide by -3 on the left side of the equation. Since we divided by -3 on the left side, we must also divide by -3 on the right side.

On the left side, notice that the -3's cancel out so we are simply left with x. On the right side, we have -18 ÷ -3 which is 6 so we have x = 6.

Finally, remember to check your answer by substituting a 6 back into the original equation. So we have -3 (6) = -18 which is a true statement.

So our answer x = 6 is correct.

Remember to show all your work when solving equations.
