Both groups lacked many important legal rights, women were counted as 1 person but African Americans were counted as 1/8 of a person.

Answer:

Both women and African American lacked important legal rights.

Step-by-step explanation:

In 17th and 18th centuries, some blacks had gained freedom, but many were still slaves as well. The free African Americans worked in building roads, canals and cities and helped in building country’s economy.

African Americans and women had very less legal protection and were in danger of putting back to slavery. One of the important legal right they lacked was the right to vote. Even the African-American soldiers faced challenges because of racial discrimination. They all were constantly fighting for the abolition of slavery.
