Explanation:

Given, Bob and Alice has 35 pumpkin pies and Bob and Catherine has 55 pumpkin pies. Let, Bob has x pumpkin pies and Alice has y pumpkin pies. Also given that, Catherine has three times as many as pumpkin pies as Alice. That's why let Catherine has 3y pumpkin pies. Now, make this conditions into an equation.

x + y = 35................(i)

or, x + 3y = 55.......(ii)

By solving these equation number i and ii, we get,

2y = 20

y = 10.

So, Alice has 10 pumpkin pies.
