People follow the crowds for many reasons but one of the most common reasons is not to feel alone or isolated. Think about this, if everyone you know is doing something that you don't think is right or you don't like, it's easier to fall on the track of following them rather than to stand up for what they're doing wrong. Not many people like the feeling of being an outcast in society so many people choose to follow the crowd to not be alone.
