A skydiver jumps out of an airplane. Emtiaz says that the skydiver should fall about 187.5 feet in 1.5 second. Is his answer reasonable?

So the initial velocity of the diver (u) =0

Distance(s) travelled by him = 187.5 feet = 187.5×12/100=22.5 m

Time taken=1.5 seconds

Solution:

Using the formula
s=ut+(1)/(2)gt^2

Where s= distance travelled

t= time taken

g= acceleration due to gravity

So according to question


22.5=(0)t+(1)/(2) (9.8) t^2


t^2=4.92

t=2.1428 sec

But Emtiaz says that the sky diver should take 1.5 sec to fall 187.5 feet

But the actual time taken is 2.1428 seconds,we can say that he is wrong.
