The equation y = -1/x represent a inverse variation

Solution:

Given, equation is
y = (-1)/(x)

We have to find the relation between x and y

Now, for finding the relation we have to take two sets of values of x and y and substitute them in given equation.

\begin{array}{l}{\text { Now, take } y=1 \rightarrow 1=-(1)/(x) \rightarrow x=-1} \\\\ {\text { Now, take } y=-1 \rightarrow-1=-(1)/(x) \rightarrow x=1}\end{array}

If we observe, when y value is decreased from 1 to – 1, the value of x is increased from -1 to 1

Hence, the x and y varies inversely
